Prior to these changes brought about by the respect at work act, in order to meet the definition of harassment on the basis of sex, the unwelcome conduct needed to be considered seriously the meaning in nature. As part of these new changes to section 28AA of the sex discrimination act, this is now been lessened to include conduct that is demeaning only in nature.
This lowering of the bar, in theory may lead to an increase in the number of complaints that are considered harassment on the basis of sex however, this remains to be seen.
