August 2022 continued to deliver some interesting and challenging HR & Workplace Relations scenarios for businesses. Today we are going to share our roundup of our most viewed content from August 2022 so you can keep up to speed in just a few minutes.
Again recruitment continued to be an issue for many businesses we spoke to in August. We must be starting to sound like a broken record speaking of how record low 3.% unemployment is creating a candidates market where top talent is hard to find and even harder to convince them to join your business.
In this environment, it is no surprise that some of our most popular content was parts of a recent HR Live where we sat down with our internal recruitment expert Stephanie Joseph to chat about these issues and On Demand HR’s solutions.
In this session she speaks about the recruitment cycle of failure where on the one hand, businesses are failing to recruit internally and on the other, the traditional recruitment model is failing to deliver results.
Please use the link at the top of your screen to learn more about why many businesses are struggling to fill vacant positions when carrying out their recruitment function internally. Spoiler alert, to resolve these problems you are going to have to completely reset your mindset. Posting a job ad on a Monday and relaxing on a Sunday afternoon on your hammock reviewing resumes is simply no longer going to cut it.
When it comes to traditional recruitment agents, candidates are waking up to understand that cryptic job advertisements promoting mysterious companies in mysterious locations doing mysterious things is simply no longer relevant and most likely a recruitment company trying to build their candidate database. Again, please click on the link at the top of your screen to listen to the full explanation of why traditional recruitment agents have not been able to adapt to this candidates market fueled by 3.5% unemployment.
Next, from another HR live session we run in August 2022, we spoke with On Demand HR managing director Clint in drill who’s shared how al essential support membership helps to deliver certainty, confidence and clarity to our clients HR and workplace relations affairs.
One of the popular extracts from this session was Clint explaining why the workplace relations review and structural implementation is an essential first step for On Demand HR members. Please click on the link at the top of your screen to view the full session but the essence of it is that it helps to create the right structural foundation with things such as employment contracts and policies and procedures to facilitate the day-to-day advice provided in the essential support membership.
Interestingly, the second most popular extract from this session was when Clint was asked who should get access to On Demand HR support. This is a common question we get when meeting with new clients, who often mistakenly assume that only one or two senior people within their organization can get access to support. Clint explains that our preference is to empower all line managers and anyone responsible for managing staff to access support. click on the link at the top of the video to learn more about how enabling more people within your organization to access support helps to develop and grow their skill sets in managing people and human resources.
So that’s a wrap for this HR roundup and we look forward to seeing you again in September for the next update.
