Changes To Parental Leave?

With changes to the Restaurant and Hospitality Modern Award coming into effect on 1 September 2022, we thought it was time to take another look at the recent Annualised Salary Provisions which will be in place for these awards but are already in effect in several other awards.

The Prime minister has recently signaled the Labour government intent to meddle with the paid parental leave scheme.  Whilst more details will be provided in the upcoming federal budget, as we understand it the proposal will see paid parental leave increase from 18 to 26 weeks and be flexible enough to be shared between the both parents as their personal situation dictates.

So is this something that you business needs to be planning for or considering?  Not exactly just yet to be fair.  

At the moment the Prime Minister signaled his intent to make these changes at a recent job summit and to provide additional detail in the budget and then of course even then, legislation would need to be introduced.  

Even if all of this happens, as we understand it the changes will not come into effect until July 2024.  We will keep our eye on this as things progresses, however we find it useful to keep on top of the HR & WR issues that are on the federal legislative agenda as more than likely at lease some of these will see the light of day.
