On Demand HR has been very vocal over the past 12 months around businesses reviewing their recruitment processes in order to continue to attract talent in a competitive recruitment market. However, we understand that process is only one of the key components of success here. Today, following a recent educational session we attended with Seek, we wanted to share some of the candidate expectations as well as most valuable perks that candidates are taking into account when making employment decisions.

The top two candidate considerations unsurprisingly were:

  • Flexible working hours; and
  • Flexible working location

Again, this has been something that we have been very vocal about in advising businesses to change their mindset wherever possible. Simply put, it is no Loger acceptable to candidates to be expected to work in the office 5 days per week “because that is the way we have always done it” or “we a paying a lot of rent for a fancy office in the CBD”.

Other perks according to Seek that were considered essential included:

  • Carparking
  • Mental Health Support
  • Active Learning & Development Programs
  • Early finish on Fridays
  • Mentorship & Coaching
  • Day off for birthday
  • Company car where travel is required
  • Free meals

These employment perks are certainty something that our recruitment team discusses with clients when carrying out a recruitment campaign and writing job advertisements for members. When faced with a competitive recruitment market with 4% unemployment and offering wages at the middle of the market, businesses need a way to differentiate themselves and stand out to attract top candidates.

We have included a list of some other perks that candidates have indicated would be valuable to them in the description of this video and on our website at ondemandhr.com.au.

We encourage you to ask yourself this question if your business is looking to recruit in 2022 – what about the job makes it stand out?
